Typhoon Yolanda Victims needs Food and Water: Lets Support Children Joy Foundation

The impact of Super Typhoon Yolanda (International Name: Haiyan) is so immense. As described by the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC), Typhoon Yolanda is the most violent and worst typhoon that ever hit in the Philippines for the last decade or so. The typhoon has landfall in Guiuan, Eastern Samar at 4:40 AM in Nov 7, 2013.

Today (Nov 10, 2013) Typhoon Yolanda is already out of the Philippine area of responsibility but it is leaving huge destruction's to properties, communication facilities, and economic condition of the areas affected by the typhoon. Most of the affected areas are in the state of power outage since Nov 7, 2013. The communication facilities have been also severely affected.

As of Nov 9, 2013 the office of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that a total of 944,597 or 4,282,636 were affected by the impact of Super typhoon. A total of 1,363 barangays had been hit by the typhoon located in 229 municipalities and 39 cities in 36 provinces in 9 regions.

Of the affected families, 73,975 or 342,137 persons were displaced and are temporarily placed I,223 evacuations centers. Due to the limited capacity of the evacuation centers, there are 2,352 families or 11,223 persons that are placed outside the evacuation centers. This make their lives even more difficult. NDRRMC also reported that as of Nov 9, 2013 reported total death is 138 persons, 14 are injured and 4 are missing.

By the looking alone on the figures of affected families and individuals, it means that we really have to extend whatever assistance that we can offer to the victims. Right now, the basic need for them to survive is food. That is why Children’s Joy Foundation Phil in cooperation with Children’s Joy Canada and Children’s Joy USA will troop to Samar and Leyte to implement massive relief distribution and medical mission. In Eastern Visayas where the provinces of Samar and Leyte are located based on the NDRRMC report, 10,602 or 59,178 persons have been directly affected by the typhoon and about 26,000 persons are evacuated in 72 evacuation centers.

The advance party of Children’s Joy is now in the area to assess the situation in the provinces of Leyte and Samar. The medical team, social workers, and volunteers are now organizing and preparing the assistance to be deployed to these areas.

Children’s Joy is again calling for all good-hearted people, organizations, and institutions to share what you have to the victims. This is a time of empathy to give food to thousands of children who have been displaced because their homes were shattered by super typhoon Yolanda.
